Mason Receives Federal Trial Court Appointment
Lane & Waterman attorney Andrea Mason was appointed to a panel of lawyers authorized to represent indigent clients accused of federal crimes. Andrea is one of only approximately 15 attorneys eligible to accept such appointments for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa Davenport Division.
Under the Criminal Justice Act, attorneys are appointed to represent persons accused of federal offenses who are financially unable to retain counsel. “Providing a defense to accused persons is critical. Of course, we work to help our clients. But, a good defense also serves to protect fundamental liberties, to seek justice, to ensure the proper functioning of our system, and to provide confidence in the legitimacy of our system. I am honored to serve in this role,” Andrea said of her appointment.
Prior to Andrea’s appointment, Lane & Waterman attorney Jeff Lang served on the CJA panel.
