Lane & Waterman attorneys Mikkie Schiltz and Bob Waterman successfully defended an eastern Iowa family practice physician and his family practice group in a medical malpractice birth injury lawsuit brought by the conservator of a minor patient who sought in excess of $5 million. The injuries allegedly occurred to the infant’s brachial plexus nerves after his shoulder became stuck (an anterior shoulder dystocia) during labor and delivery. After a 2-week trial, the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict on November 17, 2017, awarding no damages to the plaintiff.
