Firm Welcomes Three Iowa Law Summer Associates

Lane & Waterman welcomes the addition of three Summer Associates to the firm: Curtis Underwood, Courtney Brokloff, and Maegan Gorham.

Curtis earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan. He is a student at the University of Iowa College of Law where he is the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in Legal Analysis, Writing, & Research and Civil Procedure. He is involved in Appellate Advocacy, the Federalist Society, and the Christian Legal Society. Prior to law school, Curtis worked as a foster care case manager for Bethany Christian Services.

Courtney is a Quad Cities native who earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and currently attends the University of Iowa College of Law. There she received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in Torts and in Antitrust and the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence for Civil Procedure. She is a Note and Comment Editor for the Iowa Law Review and is active in many activities including the Organization for Women Law Students, the Citizen Lawyer Program’s Kids First program, the Pro Bono Society, Equal Justice Foundation, Phi Alpha Delta, and the American Constitution Society. She also volunteered with the University of Iowa Dance Marathon.

Maegan holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University and is a current student at the University of Iowa College of Law. She is a student writer for the Journal of Corporation Law, a participant in Appellate Advocacy, and serves as a Career Services Officer and Peer Advisor Volunteer for the College of Law. She earned her Master’s in Organizational Leadership from St. Ambrose University and her Bachelor’s from Monmouth College. Prior to law school, Maegan worked at Palmer College of Chiropractic, most recently as Adjunct Faculty and Director of Advancement Services, and as Adjunct Faculty at St. Ambrose University and The University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business.

The firm’s summer associate program hires law students for summer employment following their second year of law school and provides them with real-world, hands-on experience. Summer associates assist with current client matters and participate in a broad range of legal work including drafting briefs and transactional documents; participating in depositions, arbitration and mediation sessions; attending client meetings; and observing courtroom practice.
