Employment Law
Lane & Waterman has an extensive employment law practice. Its
attorneys represent employers in all aspects of employment law in Iowa
and Illinois. We provide employers preventive advice to proactively
avoid employee claims or litigation. Lane & Waterman represents
clients before administrative and local agencies and in state and
federal court. Lane & Waterman also routinely represents clients in
arbitration and mediation. Attorneys specialize in workers' compensation
and employee benefit matters. Specific employment law services include:
- preparing or reviewing employee handbooks and other employment policies and procedures
- preparing or reviewing employment agreements and separation/severance agreements
- providing assistance with regulatory compliance including wage and hour issues
- advising on the implementation of corporate downsizing or
reorganization including compliance with the WARN Act and companion
state laws
- preparing or reviewing non-competition and non-solicitation agreements
- training management and other employees on prohibiting employment
discrimination and harassment, diversity issues and compliance with
state and federal laws
- defending charges of discrimination before administrative agencies
including the Davenport Civil Rights Commission, the Iowa Civil Rights
Commission, the Illinois Department of Labor, OSHA and the EEOC, and
- defending lawsuits involving claims of employment discrimination,
harassment, wrongful discharge, leave issues (including Family Medical
Leave Act and military leave), defamation and other employment related
claims.
